Houses built of stone: a construction technique and a unique craftsmanship, unprecedented elsewhere. The houses’ roofs are also completely made of stone. The slabs, built following an old technique and science, are held only by their own weight. This craft has been passed down from generation to generation over hundreds of years. Toma Gorona, researcher at the University „1 Decembrie 1918” of Alba Iulia observed, in a paper dedicated to rural architecture: „the used materials, the working techniques and, especially, the tools are the same as those found in rural areas of ages IX – XI „. These houses have been declared historical monuments and are protected by law. At the time being, 250 of them are still up, of which 170 are inhabited.

The ethnographic exhibition: part of the exhibitions network conducted by the ethnographic Alba County Council, and subordinated to CJ Alba and to Alba Iulia’s National Museum of Unification. It is housed in a traditional home, over 110 years old, and built in the traditional style: from stone slabs with clay mixed with sand.
